FROM THE MAYOR

If you don’t live in our fantastic part of Australia and you are as footy mad as most Mackay people are, you need to be here for the weekend of March 2 to 3.

The NQ Cowboys will take on Melbourne Storm in a trial game at the home of the Mackay Cutters, BB Print Stadium, on Saturday, March 2.

It will be the final hit-out for the teams before the 2019 NRL season-proper kicks off a fortnight later, so both teams will field full-strength line-ups.

You can expect the Mackay crowd to be very vocal in their support for the NQ Cowboys, but there is also sure to be plenty of support for Queensland’s unofficial NRL team, Melbourne Storm.

Our State League team – the Mackay Cutters – are staging this trial game, with support from Mackay Regional Council.

So, if you are visiting our region for this big clash, welcome.
If you are thinking about it, you need to act now because the town is filling up fast.

That’s because it is a massive weekend of footy. Backing up the NRL clash is a JLT Community Series AFL game between the Gold Coast Suns and Melbourne’s Western Bulldogs, at the nearby Great Barrier Reef Arena on Sunday.

Enjoy the footy.

Mayor Greg Williamson, Mackay Regional Council
